Prince William has appointed Rob McLoughlin, the broadcaster and producer, an OBE at a special ceremony in Buckingham Palace on Thursday, 21 May 2015.

The service saw the Actress Sheridan Smith also collect an OBE for Services to Drama along with honours and gallantry medals for military personnel and others from across the country.

Rob commented, “Among the recipients were two mild mannered real-life super-heroes from the RAF who rescued a man sixty miles off the Falkland Islands who was drowning on a fishing boat in 55mph gales.”

“I asked the pilot, how on earth do you steady a helicopter in those conditions? He replied, its intensive training.

“It makes you feel unworthy when you hear stories and meet such charming heroes as that.”

Rob received the award for Services to Broadcasting in the North West.

He revealed, “The Prince and I spoke briefly about the region and the BBC in the North, but I can’t say more than that!”
